In this competition, the best national and international startups compete to present the most disruptive project. WINNERS HISTORY

Music Equality Forum

Music Equality Forum (MEF) arose from the need to combat gender inequalities in the music industry. MEF is possible thanks to the union created between BIME and various organizations fighting for a fairer industry that guarantees equal participation with free and equal access to resources, recognition, and decision-making.

2017

We started working with Asociación MIM (Women of the Music Industry) to develop a gender equality-focused program

2018

We committed to Keychange, a global network and movement working for a complete restructuring of the music industry to achieve full gender equality

2019

We gave greater recognition and visibility to women and LGBTQ people in our BIME Pro program

2020

We increased collaborations with organizations focused on women and LGBTQ people

2021

We created the Music Equality Forum (MEF) space

2022

We continued forging key alliances and raising awareness of the gender inequality that exists in the music industry

2023

We published the results of the "HACKING THE GENDER GAP" working group held in Barcelona, Bilbao, Buenos Aires, and Bogotá in collaboration with FEMNOISE.

2024 Objective: To promote gender and racial equality in the music industry, ensuring fair opportunities, eliminating stereotypes, and creating a safe and diverse environment that celebrates talent regardless of gender or race. We are working to eliminate systemic barriers.

WHY IS MEF NECESSARY?

86% of women in the Music Industry claim to have encountered a barrier when being hired (Asociación MIM, 2022). This year, for the first time in history, a trans woman was nominated for the Premio Lo Nuestro in the Female Artist category (LATV, 2023). In the last 10 years, only 13.6% of the GRAMMY nominations have been for women (Inclusion In The Recording Studio?, 2022). "In Latin America, only 15% of record labels are owned by women" (Linda Criollo, 2021). "Although the origin of music is unquestionably African, in mainstream music, the majority of artists are not Afro-descendants" (Edna Liliana Valencia, 2023).

Directory of Women and/or LGBTQ Organizations

With nearly a hundred organizations and initiatives in our directory, we seek to boost the growth of women and the LGBTQ community in music. We prioritize strategic alliances, using the directory as a key connection tool. Our goals include fostering collaborations, offering development opportunities, and creating a positive change in the industry by promoting inclusion and diversity. You can download the Directory of Women and/or LGBTQ Organizations using the button below.

Want to be part of it? Join our directory and contribute to creating a space where every voice collaborates and works to promote the diversity of contemporary music.

#KEYCHANGE

With the support of the European Union's Creative Europe Program, BIME has been part of the Keychange project since 2018, a global network and movement working for a complete restructuring of the music industry to achieve full gender equality.

2nd Edition of the Ibero-American BIME Equity Awards

In 2022, we decided it was necessary to reward all initiatives that work towards gender equality in the music industry.

Thus, we created the Ibero-American BIME Equity Awards in collaboration with Amazon Music.

In 2023, we will celebrate the second edition of the awards, and the winning initiatives donated their prizes to the project they chose.

BIME brings us closer to the music supervision community. As part of its program, BIME Pro includes a series of talks focused on this sector, which delves into music synchronization across various media and digital platforms such as film, television, and advertising.

Flamenco Guitar: A Technique to Rule Them All – 01/11: 10:00h–12:00h

Demonstration, analysis, and explanation of the many resources of flamenco guitar technique.

The flamenco guitar encompasses a series of elements and resources extremely rich in expressive diversity that give the instrument unique sonorities:

Rasgueados, Alzapúa, Percussion on the wood, Arpeggios, Picados.

We will analyze and learn how these can be successfully applied in other musical contexts, studying ways of fusing flamenco technique with technical elements of other genres such as classical, folk, pop, blues… to finally achieve a new, rich, and versatile technique born from the blend of many.
