Javi Medina is currently one of the most talked-about phenomena in the Spanish music scene, thanks to his ability to blend genres and create a distinctive sound that connects with audiences from very different generations. His music is a direct reflection of his life and experiences, intertwining profound lyrics with melodies that draw you in, singing about love and loss, but also about hope and resilience, without the need to embellish anything else.
His style is defined by a fusion of contemporary flamenco with a wide range of other genres, allowing him to stand out in an increasingly eclectic musical landscape that, as Javi himself says, is becoming more uniform and less like the music he enjoys listening to. From his hometown of Leganés, and always armed with his inseparable guitar — the same one he has carried with him since he was 16 — Medina is smashing the metrics: in just one year, he has multiplied his YouTube views tenfold, from 5 to 50 million, while his single “Con las cartas en la mesa” went head-to-head with names such as Taylor Swift among the platform’s most-viewed content. On Spotify, while his first albums had accumulated 20 million streams, “Gato Negro” — his latest album, featuring collaborations such as Camilo — has already surpassed 50 million.
With the sound of Caño Roto as his starting point, Javi Medina creates a unique fusion of contemporary flamenco and a thousand and one other genres.
Javi Medina is a phenomenon worth watching: a unique voice of his generation who, singing about his celebrations and his sorrows, connects with an increasingly diverse audience that follows him wherever he goes — whether to set the stage of Bahía Sound or Muac Fest on fire, or to pack out venues, sweat it out and sell out shows at La Riviera, Razzmatazz or Momart Theatre. And he does it without wanting to be anyone’s role model: “I feel like just another guy who makes songs,” he says.
The cards, just like in his song, are always on the table.
