Start Up!

The space for innovation and entrepreneurship where all the technological news related to music can be discovered. The ideal place to foster new business opportunities and generate synergies with other entrepreneurs, corporates, and investors. In this context, we have the StartUp Village, an exhibition area to showcase a selection of 16 projects to all the professionals attending BIME, and 8 of these proposals are selected as finalists for the STARTUP COMPETITION, a key event for boosting and internationalizing startups in the creative, music, and digital industries. In this competition, the best national and international startups compete to present the most disruptive project. Thanks to the high participation of investors, corporates, and the development of startups, BIME START UP! has become one of the most cutting-edge international events in Europe and Latin America.

Participate in the 13th Edition

This year, BIME is once again looking for the best startups related to the Cultural and Creative Industries that have a direct or indirect application to the Music Industry. The 6 selected will be eligible for a stand in the STARTUP VILLAGE. Do you think your project can be part of the BIME Startup Competition? Register at the following link! Remember to select the "BIME Bilbao 2024 Startup Competition" call.

HISTORICAL WINNERS

Music and brands

At BIME, we know everything about music and more. In this case, we have partnered with the marketing sector to spark conversations about the long-standing relationship between brands and music.

This proposal aims to offer BIME attendees a full day dedicated to exploring the connection between music and brands. The section "Music and Brands: Strategic Harmony" will provide valuable insights on how brands can effectively use music in their marketing strategy, whether through their own projects or sponsorships.

The conferences and panels will feature case studies of successful collaborations between brands and artists, and will discuss current trends in the use of music in marketing. Additionally, interactive workshops will allow participants to learn how to build a solid music strategy for their brand, as well as discover new opportunities for music sponsorship.

With this proposal, BIME will expand its reach and offer an enriching space for professionals from the music industry, record labels, music streaming companies, intellectual property rights societies, promoters, live music companies, and ticketing platforms to connect with brands and explore new forms of collaboration in the music and marketing space.

RELIVE THE FIRST EDITION OF "MUSIC AND BRANDS: STRATEGIC HARMONY"

This new segment gave attendees a full day immersed in the intersection between music and brands.

From inspiring conferences to detailed panels, we explored how brands can weave music into their marketing strategies. The sessions offered practical case studies of successful collaborations, unraveled the latest trends in the use of music in marketing, and provided interactive workshops to build solid music strategies.

The response was overwhelming, with professionals from the music industry, record labels, streaming platforms, and live event companies connecting with brands in a fruitful dialogue about the powerful role of music in branding.

Music Equality Forum

The Music Equality Forum (MEF) arises from the need to combat gender inequalities in the music industry. MEF is made possible through the union between BIME and various organizations fighting for a fairer industry that ensures equal participation with free and equal access to resources, recognition, and decision-making.

2017

We started working with the MIM Association (Women in the Music Industry) to develop a gender equality-focused program.

2018

We committed to Keychange, a global network and movement working for a total restructuring of the music industry to achieve full gender equality.

2019

We gave greater recognition and visibility to women and LGTBIQ individuals in our BIME Pro program.

2020

We increased the number of collaborations with organizations focused on women and LGTBIQ individuals.

2021

We created the Music Equality Forum (MEF) space.

2022

We continued forging key alliances and increasing visibility of gender inequality in the music industry.

2023

We published the results of the "HACKING THE GENDER GAP" working session held in Barcelona, Bilbao, Buenos Aires, and Bogotá in collaboration with FEMNOISE.

2024 Objective: Promote gender and racial equality in the music industry, ensuring fair opportunities, eliminating stereotypes, and creating a safe and diverse environment that celebrates talent regardless of gender or race. We work to eliminate systemic barriers.

WHY IS MEF NECESSARY?

86% of women in the Music Industry claim to have faced a barrier when it comes to their hiring (MIM Association, 2022). This year, for the first time in history, a trans woman has been nominated for the Lo Nuestro Award in the Female Artist category (LATV, 2023). In the last 10 years, only 13.6% of Grammy nominations have been for women (Inclusion In The Recording Studio?, 2022). "In Latin America, only 15% of record labels are owned by women" (Linda Criollo, 2021). "Despite the undeniable origin of music being from the African continent, in mainstream and widely consumed music across different sectors and genres, most artists are not Afro-descendants" (Edna Liliana Valencia, 2023).

Directory of Women and/or LGTBIQ Organizations

With nearly a hundred organizations and initiatives in our directory, we aim to boost the growth of women and the LGTBIQ community in music. We prioritize strategic alliances, using the directory as a key tool for connection. Our goals include fostering collaborations, offering development opportunities, and generating positive change in the industry by promoting inclusion and diversity. You can download the Directory of Women and/or LGTBIQ Organizations by clicking the button below.

Do you want to be part of it? Join our directory and help create a space where every voice collaborates and works to promote the diversity of current music.

#KEYCHANGE

With the support of the Creative Europe Program of the European Union, BIME has been part of the Keychange project since 2018, a global network and movement working for a total restructuring of the music industry to achieve full gender equality.

2nd Edition of the Ibero-American BIME Equity Awards

In 2022, we decided that it was necessary to award those initiatives working towards gender equality in the music industry.

Thus, we created the Ibero-American BIME Equity Awards with the collaboration of Amazon Music.

In 2023, we will celebrate the second edition of the awards, and the winning initiatives will once again donate their prize to the project they choose.

Music Supervision

The Art of Music Supervision

In collaboration with The Guild of Music Supervisor, BIME brings us closer to the music supervision guild. In this way, the BIME Pro program features various talks about this sector, which delves into the musical synchronization of different media and digital platforms such as film, television, and advertising.
