Catherine Surace Arenas
Master of Music with emphasis in oboe from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (1997) with a Master’s degree in oboe performance from the University of Michigan, USA (2002). Master’s degree in Musicology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2022). Winner of the 2001 Icetex Young Talents Scholarship, Carolina Oramas Scholarship, 2002 and Merit Scholarship from the University of Michigan in the United States (2000 and 2001). She taught chamber music, music theory and oboe at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana between 1998 and 2014. She was the Director of the Music Studies Department at the same university between 2004 and 2010. As an orchestral musician she has worked with the Professional Orchestra of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogota between 1994 and 2004. She coordinated and was the organizer of the National Meeting of Oboists in the 2008, 2009 and 2012 versions. Since 2012 she is the Academic Director of the Fundación Nacional Batuta.
