Mau Gatiyo
Inspired by the accordion sounds of the 70’s and influenced by the tropical scene of Bogota, Mau Gatiyo makes a futuristic vallenato that sometimes becomes a protest cumbia and other times leads to an explosion of tropical rhythms, all sweetened by cinematic samples, synthesizers and an accordion with unexpected melodies that invite to dance and to a tropical and psychedelic experience.
In 2022 he recorded his first album (Baño Unisex) in the Mambo Negro studio, with the help of prominent figures of the Bogota tropical scene as Ivan Medellin (Conjunto Media Luna) in engineering and Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers) in mixing and mastering. The album was released in April 2023 by In-correcto label.
In March 2024, the Names You Can Trust label released a 7” vinyl in New York City featuring two tracks by the group.
On August 23rd, 2024, Mau Gatiyo released his second album called Superpoderes which is influenced by the music of Alfredo Gutierrez and Calixto Ochoa and was composed from samples over which accordion melodies and vallenato percussions intertwine with psychedelic keyboard sounds. In this new album Mau Gatiyo explores the ancestral sounds of classic vallenato mixing them with unexpected sonorities, samples taken from movies, euphoric chiflidos and remnants of documentaries taken from Youtube, giving the right atmosphere for a tropical and avant-garde experience.
This second album led him to play in the first Vallenato al Parque Festival, as well as in the Bomm showcases and in the In-correcto Festival, opening for accordion legend Carmelo Torres, and also in the Centro 2025 Festival with a full house.
