Censorship acts as a mechanism of control that limits artists’ freedom to express ideas, promoting the suppression of dissenting voices and imposing a single narrative—the feared and dangerous dominant narrative. Censorship operates across various sectors and permeates the entire professional framework involved in live events.
What is the reason for the declining support from public institutions in some of our territories, particularly for the most innovative, diverse, and gender-focused proposals?
We also witness how these ideological threats reveal festivals that, despite receiving support from public and private institutions, feature predominantly male line-ups.
What cultural challenges do we face when we experience censorship and the lack of female talent on stage? It is essential to defend democratic principles and promote a culture of respect for freedom of expression and cultural diversity.
