closeFrom reggaeton to hip hop and trap, women have skillfully expressed their desires with rhymes, terms, and clarity strong enough to endure over time. Through explicit language, unfiltered and reclaiming terms like 'hoe' and 'bichota,' we see a redefinition of the discourse and the creation of unique codes that finally challenge the view of urban music as a misogynistic sound. But is this change in discourse a transgression against the system or merely a perpetuation of specific, imposed aesthetic standards? How do we speak about desire in the first person? How do we desexualize the male gaze for female artists?
