BIME 2025 receives quality certification for its commitment to universal accessibility in the music industry

The event implemented physical, sensory, and cognitive measures in collaboration with the Music for All Foundation, allowing people with functional diversity to fully enjoy the professional sessions and live concerts. BIME Bilbao 2025 has been recognized with the “Quality Seal: Accessibility in Music Events,” a certification that acknowledges the event’s commitment to inclusion and the removal of physical and communication barriers. During the sessions held on October 28 and 29 at the Euskalduna Palace, and in its live music activities, the organization deployed a “universal design” strategy to ensure that all attendees could participate safely, comfortably, and independently. The main goal of this initiative, developed in collaboration with the Music for All Foundation and third-sector organizations, has been to promote a music industry where enjoyment and participation are guaranteed for all attendees, regardless of their abilities. Audit and environment adaptation According to the accessibility assessment report conducted after the event, all stages of the attendee experience were analyzed based on DALCO criteria (Mobility, Grasp, Localization, and Communication). Among the highlighted measures at Euskalduna Palace, accessible routes were ensured to connect horizontally and vertically the main entrance with key spaces, such as conference rooms and restrooms. Signage played a fundamental role in orientation, with clear indications on the floor and signs on railings and elevators to identify floors and activities. Additionally, information desks and accreditation counters were adapted with lowered sections to facilitate interaction for wheelchair users. Technology for sensory accessibility The event placed special emphasis on sensory and cognitive accessibility. During the concerts, a “Music for All Point” was set up where support materials were available for loan, such as vibrating backpacks, induction loops, and noise-canceling headphones. Sign language interpreters (SLI) were also present in some conference activities and concerts. Success in live concerts The live music program, BIME Live, took place on October 28 at the Bilborock Hall, a space that, according to the report, allowed barrier-free movement. Concerts by artists Motherflowers, Arroba Nat, and Jess Baez were accessible, with sign language interpreters and preferential spaces near the stage for people with hearing or mobility impairments. To validate the impact of these measures, it is essential to hear the voices of attendees. Henar Pascual Villanueva, a member of the Gregorio Ybarra association, is deaf, a pedagogue, an IT specialist, and holds master’s degrees in accessibility and disability. After attending, she shared her positive feedback: "I had my first experience using a vibrating vest at a musical concert in Bilborock, which also had a sign language interpreter on stage. This experience was very enjoyable." Henar also points out the path for the sector: "Future challenges will be the development of more effective vibrating accessories and collaborative work to establish an accessibility guide. Step by step, we will make concerts increasingly inclusive." The success of these initiatives is reflected in the numbers: thanks to collaboration with local associations such as Gorabide, Aransgi, and Ulertuz, a total of 27 people from these organizations attended the concerts. The report highlights that 18 of these attendees used the available support materials, and more than 20 people with disabilities could enjoy live music thanks to these measures. The report concludes that implementing all these accessibility measures, beyond what current legislation requires, guarantees an “accessibility chain” that benefits all attendees, establishing BIME as a benchmark for inclusion in the cultural sector.

Music Tourism: A Booming Market Among Millennials and Generation Z

    Live music

According to a recent study by Grand View Research, the music tourism market is experiencing significant growth driven by a fundamental shift in traveler behavior. Valued at $96.78 billion in 2024, music tourism is projected to reach $267.85 billion by 2030, with a remarkable compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.80%. This boom reflects the growing preference among travelers, especially Millennials and Generation Z, to prioritize unique and immersive experiences over traditional tourism. Young people are seeking personal connections, emotional engagement, and cultural enrichment when traveling, and music tourism fits perfectly into this trend: Live music provides a shared, unique atmosphere that cannot be replicated by digital streaming or recorded content. It is precisely this authenticity that attracts audiences, especially those aged 18 to 34, who consider concerts an important part of their lifestyle and social identity and often travel to attend live shows. This demographic is particularly receptive to music tourism due to their inclination toward experience-based consumption, prioritizing cultural, emotional, and social experiences over material possessions. The wide array of festivals is another key factor behind the rise of music tourism. Iconic events such as the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom attract hundreds of thousands of people annually, offering not only music but also art, gastronomy, and cultural activities that immerse visitors in a broader cultural experience. Glastonbury is a global example of music tourism’s significant contribution to local economies and cultural identity. Moreover, the popularity of festivals has led to the replication of successful events internationally, transforming music tourism into a global and mobile industry all year round. According to the same study, digital transformation also plays a crucial role in this context. The rise of streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube has enabled artists from around the world to reach global audiences and consumers to discover music of all genres without borders. Similarly, fans now have an increasingly wide range of artists to follow and see live. The study highlights the global phenomenon of K-pop and BTS as a prominent example of how digital engagement drives music tourism, with fans traveling thousands of kilometers from different countries to attend their concerts. The Grand View Research report provides an in-depth analysis of this market’s growth, offering insights into its segments by event (concerts, festivals), age group, booking method, and region. It also includes market analysis, competitive landscapes, and future trends to support strategic decision-making.

Contacto de prensa Leire Goienetxea –  leire@bime.org  PRESSKITBIME Bilbao  28-31 octubre 2025  BIME Bogotá mayo 2026  +info www.bime.org    @bimenet_ #bime     All about music and more

    Welcome to the Bime Community

Dear BIME Community, In the last edition, we spoke about transformations in the music industry that are now accelerating. Artificial intelligence, the evolution of concerts, and the urgent need for new sustainable models are shaping the rhythm of an exciting—yet sometimes challenging—ecosystem. In this context of challenges and opportunities, music remains a universal bridge between communities and generations, a space where borders blur and connections multiply. From various corners of Ibero-America, we continue to champion dialogue, innovation, and the collective construction of a stronger and more sustainable musical present. That’s why we are taking our mission a step further: we’re launching the new BIME Digital Community. A living, ongoing space designed to share knowledge, inspire, and strengthen alliances among all agents in the industry. We aim to continue fostering innovation and growth in all its dimensions—now with a platform that expands opportunities for connection and learning. This digital community is built around four key pillars that drive development and connection in the music industry: CREATION, a space dedicated to fostering inspiration, experimentation, and artistic growth in all its forms COMMUNITY, an environment designed to build strong networks, strengthen alliances, and share knowledge among music industry professionals BUSINESS, the engine for developing business opportunities, innovating business models, and driving the artistic ecosystem RELATED INDUSTRIES, which serve as a bridge to other cultural and creative industries, enriching music through interdisciplinary exchange. Through these pillars, we will offer talks, workshops, virtual meetups, and interactive content that will accompany us throughout the year—beyond the in-person events. We invite you to be part of this big family... See you in Bilbao and in our new BIME Digital Community! Warm regards, Isabel VillanuevaDirector of BIME
