Pitxorines

The word Pitxorina means “young, cheerful girl and fern.” It is a disused Mallorcan word used mainly in the eastern part of Mallorca. This is how the eight musicians who make up the musical project define themselves. The project was born out of a desire to share the music of Mallorca’s traditional songbook and give it a new twist through their own arrangements.

Pitxorines’ second album, titled Sa Falda Girada, will be released on 24 April in physical format and across all digital platforms. Following their first album, Un so que no es gasta, which led to more than 80 concerts around the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, five awards (the Enderrock Balear Critics’ Award for Best Folk Album, the Enderrock Balear Award for Best Folk Album by popular vote, the Enderrock Balear Award for Best Live Act by popular vote, the Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel Award from the OCB, and the Gota de Aceite Award from the Mallorca Island Council), an ARC Awards nomination for Breakthrough Artist, and a Casa de la Música creation grant in collaboration with SGAE, the group delves into a second album in which they continue to explore and reinterpret Mallorca’s traditional songbook.
