    Dialogues

    Diálogos: Mau y Ricky

    Creation and musical performance

In this episode of Diálogos, we sit down with Mau y Ricky, a duo that has grown within the music industry by staying true to their roots while continuously evolving with authenticity. From their early musical experiences within a creative family environment to their latest artistic explorations, they share how their career has been shaped by emotional connection, constant reinvention, and a deep bond with their artistic community. Throughout the conversation, they reflect on the impact of their upbringing, the value of reconnecting with their origins, and the challenges of preserving a personal identity in a fast-changing industry. Topics include the evolution of Latin sounds, the resurgence of tropical influences, the rise of corridos tumbados, and the role of the music industry in fostering or limiting creative freedom. This dialogue offers a candid, insightful look into the journey of two artists who see music as a powerful form of collective expression. A conversation to explore authenticity, growth, and community within today’s Latin music ecosystem.

    Dialogues

    Diálogos: Maria Arnal

    Creation and musical performance

In this Encounters episode, artist María Arnal delves into the creative process behind Ama, her first solo show, born from a deep exploration of voice, sound, and cutting-edge technology. Collaborating with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Arnal has developed a way to clone her own voice using AI, crafting a new instrument through a careful and artisanal approach. The conversation focuses on the creative potential of artificial intelligence when approached critically and responsibly. Rather than relying on massive AI models, Arnal emphasizes the importance of understanding how these tools work and using them to enhance, not replace, artistic identity. In Ama, this vision extends to the stage, where she incorporates a digital instrument that allows dancers' movements to modulate her cloned voice, creating an immersive and multisensory performance. This reflection invites us to reconsider the creative possibilities that emerge from the intersection of art and technology. Projects like this support artistic research, encourage critical thinking, and pave the way for innovative creations where experimentation and expression go hand in hand.

    Dialogues

    Diálogos: Tokischa y Angelica Piche

    Creation and musical performance

In this new episode of Dialogues, music journalist Luisa Piñeros sits down with Tokischa, one of the most unique and disruptive voices in the Latin American music scene, and her manager, business partner and co-founder of Sol Music Group, Angélica Piche. Broadcasting from the Dominican Republic, they share a powerful story of resistance, sisterhood, and building from the margins of an industry long dominated by male voices. Through a candid and visionary conversation, Tokischa opens up about her creative process as a deeply personal act — one rooted in introspection and loyalty to her own truth. Meanwhile, Piche explains how together they’ve developed a management model centered on creative freedom, self-determination, and education as key tools to protect emerging artists from abuse and exploitation. This conversation is more than a story — it’s a roadmap for anyone, especially women, striving to make their way in an unequal landscape. It’s about pain, growth, and a fierce commitment to building a new future. Because, as they both state: the best response will always be work done with vision, heart, and integrity.

    Dialogues

Diálogos: Elniko Arias, Daniela Arias, Juancho Valencia

    Creation and musical performance

In this episode of Diálogos, music journalist Luisa Piñeros dives into the creative journey behind El Barbero, the debut album by Elniko Arias, one of the most promising new voices in Latin America's urban music scene. Joining him are Daniela Arias, label manager at Warner Music, and acclaimed producer Juancho Valencia, forming a dynamic trio rooted in experience, vision, and community. Their conversation touches on the role of the neighborhood as a source of inspiration, Medellín’s evolution as a hub for urban music, and the value of building artistic projects beyond industry formulas and digital trends. They also discuss the importance of embracing slow creative processes and trusting in artistic identity over instant success. This episode invites us to view music as a space for resistance, authenticity, and imagination. In a world of constant noise, El Barbero offers a moment to pause, reflect, and tell stories with honesty and depth.

    Dialogues

Diálogos El DavidAguilar y Calequi y Las Panteras

    Creation and musical performance

When music becomes a space for genuine connection, unexpected and powerful collaborations can emerge. That’s exactly what happened when Calequi y Las Panteras joined forces with El David Aguilar in a BIME Session that defied expectations. What began as an uncertain and slightly uncomfortable encounter quickly evolved into a celebration of creative openness, mutual respect, and the magic of letting oneself be surprised. The result: a vibrant, authentic musical piece that speaks to the power of real connection beyond genres. This episode illustrates how music serves as a bridge for building community within the industry. Through empathy, active listening, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones, the artists show that collaboration goes beyond blending styles — it’s about sharing process, exchanging knowledge, and opening doors to new creative perspectives. Their "happy alliance" stands as proof that authentic, cross-genre collaborations can generate projects with depth, reach, and lasting impact. The experience of Calequi and El David Aguilar reminds us that collaboration not only enriches the final artistic output, but also strengthens the human and professional ties within the music industry. In an increasingly digital and individualistic environment, these creative encounters inspire us to reclaim collective creation, dialogue, and mutual growth as essential pillars for artistic and community development.

    Dialogues

    Diálogos: Villano Antillano

    Creation and musical performance

Villano Antillano is one of the most influential and groundbreaking voices in today’s Latin urban scene. Hailing from Puerto Rico, this queer artist is challenging the norms of the genre with a creative approach that blends sharp lyricism, political storytelling, and a bold visual identity. With over 270 million views on YouTube, her impact goes beyond music to become a cultural statement. Her latest album, Miss Misogynie, stands as a rebellious manifesto that celebrates the legacy of women in rap while reshaping the rules of the game. For Villano, music is more than sound — it’s a creative battleground. Her process reveals the inner tensions of being an independent artist navigating an industry driven by algorithms, performance metrics, and commercial expectations. In response, she doubles down on authenticity and creates work that prioritizes message, identity, and expressive freedom. Her journey is a powerful example of how artistic creation can drive social change within the music industry. From self-publishing to digital space-making, Villano is redefining what it means to be a professional artist today. This BIME episode offers a deep dive into the present and future of Latin urban music — through the lens of a creator who refuses to fit the mold.

Flamenco today: icons, new generations, and the renewal of codes

    Creation and musical performance

We are witnessing a golden age of flamenco and the renewal of its own codes. We are spectators of a two-way dialogue between the great figures of the past and a wave of new artists who reinterpret the language of flamenco. By weaving a bridge between novelty, trends, and sound roots, artists like Ángles Toledano are bringing traditional flamenco to new audiences. But what challenges does flamenco face in its own renewal? How do we establish a balance between tradition and contemporary values such as equity and multiculturalism?
